The SockKids #SayNoToBullying by Michael John Sullivan and Illustrated by Alexandra Gold

The Sockkids Say NO to Bullying

This book is a delightful story about how children can overcome bullying with each other’s help and support. The kids make friends and make the new girl welcome. She too stands up for reading and books which is another good lesson for children. Bullying is encountered by all of us during our life. Rare is the person who would not have met a bully. The Sockkids help the new kid at school, Olivia and Ethan who is her classmate from being bullied by a few boys at school.

Being scared and hiding cannot help avoid bullies but neither can confronting them since it can lead to trouble. The reason for bullying can be inconsequential and here it is reading as both the kids are reading the same book. They are jeered and taunted by the boys and even the book taken away, torn and dumped. In come the sockkids Sudsy and Wooly to their rescue the kids.

The Sockkids are brave, delightful and interesting with their own little world, supporting and help solve the problems faced by Ethan and his friends. The children help and rescue animals and people in need. Olivia joins them and feels happy at her new school since she had been missing her old friends and city. The Sockkids help them in their  adventures and learn valuable lessons as they go.

Nothing more pleasurable than reading and learning for young and old alike. I agree that this book is for all ages. Bullying is encountered not just as children but as adults too and this book not only helps us learn about it but how to counter it.

Safety measures, tackling bullies and advice are also included in the book making it a book that should be added to all libraries. I found the resources mentioned very helpful and insightful. They can be used as guidelines to explain kids about bullying and also find out if our child is being bullied.

I recommend this book for everyone and all age groups. #SayNoToBullying
