MV Kasi has a clear and crisp writing style with the story of Mahi and Samrat finding a place in my heart. More about the book in my review soon. My blog today welcomes the self-published author MV Kasi. That Same Old Love is her first book and I have enjoyed reading it. I asked her about the views on how she improved and made the book ‘publish ready’?
Since everyone loves their own words the importance of an impartial reader who can catch the errors and loopholes in the story is a must. What do you think is the role and importance of a beta-reader and editor for a book? Your thoughts.
I think a beta-reader is very critical for a book since they can make your book several times better. I’m lucky enough to have a great set of beta readers. Some of them were avid readers; some had never read a romance book previously and some had never read a novel at all. It was an interesting experience working with them. While they have been encouraging for the most part, they were also pretty straightforward and brutally frank on what parts of the book worked or have not worked for each of them. They had also questioned the character’s motivations and actions in a few scenes that I would have otherwise overlooked.
As the author, the entire story resided in my head before I could put it in a book. Even though I had written the exact story, some of it was not too obvious to the readers. The beta readers helped me fill up that gap and put those thoughts on paper. I had made several revisions based on their valuable and critical feedback
An editor is equally important. Having as many eyes as possible to properly edit a book would make it a more polished product. I have been lucky to have a set of authors as my editors and they have proofread and copy edited my book several times. However, on the flip side, I do believe that the most beautifully written or the best-edited book can often fail if the storyline or the characters are not compelling enough.
Thank you MV Kasi, for this insight into the writing and crucial editing process for your book. As a Beta- reader I agree that a second or third set of eyes can make a lot of difference to the manuscript.
My best wishes as I look forward to reading your next book.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
When I am not working in a full-time job or taking care of my family, I sneakily read at least 3 or 4 romance books of all possible genres within a week. I love reading books that are witty, humorous, heartwarming, hot and definitely with a happily-ever-after.
After sinking my teeth into hundreds of books over the years, I had an aha moment one day and started writing my first romance book. For three months straight I worked day and night until finally, I finished it. Then, of course, I re-read what I wrote, cringed and deleted most of it and started over again. Finally, I had a version of it ready that I was satisfied with (somewhat). But after getting positive feedback from well-meaning friends and family members, I decided to self-publish it on Amazon.
Although my story takes place in India, featuring Indian characters, I’m hoping that it can be enjoyed by readers all around the world. Especially since romance has no boundaries when it comes to a sizzling one featuring a sassy heroine and a hot alpha hero.
