All of us feel strongly, think deeply, and our lives are bundled up with our emotions.
Sharing feelings never comes easily, especially for young kids learning to navigate complex emotions as they grow up.
As a child steps out, they encounter different behaviours and tasks ahead, not all they want to do.
The world away from the soft cocoon of the house evokes so many emotions, not all of them pleasant.
Understanding a child’s emotions and feelings isn’t simple. Artika understands the minds and helps them express their thoughts with her books. Each book has space for writing, journaling and drawing.
These books are interactive and helpful in children learning to express themselves, a definite plus in my view, as they encourage the child to understand better.
A story about young kids going to school and interacting with their teacher, talking about their feelings is something all young children will relate to. Going to a preschool evokes familiar feelings for all. Artika explores this aspect in the book and explains how to handle the big feelings of little kids.
This book, My Little Handbook of Emotions, explains the feelings with a story, journal, and exercises that encourage children to embrace their emotions, good and bad, happy and sad, and every other feeling in between.
This is the fifth book by Artika and having read all her previous books, I knew this book would be no different and would delve into the heart of this matter.

My Little Handbook of Emotions is perfect for young kids, even teenagers. My kid, a teen, couldn’t resist filling in the exercise a bit in his funny way to remind me that I don’t give him enough screen time 🙂
This book is perfect for parents to teach their kids about expressing themselves, help parents understand how kids feel when exposed to new situations and help them talk about their feelings.
The pages for drawing and writing reasons for happiness or sadness with the pages for reflection to share our feelings and emotions that are important to a child are the best features of this handbook.

Yes, emotions are complex things. Expressing them is the key, but learning to express them well is a challenge. For children, it is difficult because they are just learning about their own emotions. This book, indeed, would be of great help.
