STRONG LOVE #TheMagician (The Tarot Trilogy Book 1) by Sonia Rao

This is the story of three friends who find themselves at crossroads with sudden changes in their lives. The cover is what reeled me in along with Sonia’s writing. I have always been fascinated by Tarot Cards and I enjoyed reading this book.

The Magician is the story of Sasha, Shantha, and Nilima. Three women who are friends, their lives intertwined as love shows its different hues to them. The Magician has three stories of three women. The strength of the story is the characterisation of the women, their lives and the turmoil they face.

This was the first book by Sonia and she has done a good job highlighting the anguish and desires of women. The three protagonists are from well to do families and are working women who are achieving their goals. Love is found in places where we never think to look.

This book is a standalone novel and tarot finds a place in the lives of the characters. It is a bit of a mystery with the betrayal, loss, and intense love intermingled in the lives of the friends.

Nilima is a sweet young woman totally besotted by her husband while Shantha is Tarot reader, confident, poised yet unsure of love. Sasha is a successful business woman but her professional success does little to boost her confidence in her love life and marriage.

Must mention in The Magician:

  • Strong bond of friendship and the importance of having friends.
  • A different storyline, fresh challenges and how the women overcome them.
  • The story of three women are each different but they are connected with interesting twists.
  • Love is most important but never let it come in between your work.
  • Passion is vital, not just for a happy love life but more so for your work or business.
  • Smart husbands are dumb sometimes.
  • While confident lovers can still doubt their love.
  • Sometimes love doesn’t last but it makes us capable.
  • The author got the social culture right. The glitzy parties, the carefree attitude and the gossiping wives.
  • The names of the characters were a bit rhyming and got me confused a couple of times till I was immersed in the book.
  • I am waiting for the next book in the series! Where is it Sonia??

Each one of the protagonists has love with her but is looking beyond it, trying to find the elusive true love. Sometimes what we have losses it’s sheen and we don’t realise it’s value. Sonia has shown us the simple truths of our lives through these women.

It reflects our contemporary life of women today. Must read for a refreshing perspective of our times today.

Thoughts from the Author, Sonia Rao

Who is a Magician? If it is a Tarot Card, then it the Major Arcana card in the deck and symbolises life-changing issues.

But if it is a person, then it is Sasha, the main protagonist of my novel, The Magician. In this urban, contemporary romance, fashion designer Sasha, who caught within a loveless marriage, now seeks true love. It is also Shantha and Nilima who face their own challenges in love and try to rise above them.

It is also every woman. This is because, as Shantha says to Sasha in the book, “Imagination is your strength. You have the power to visualise and then manifest what you want. You are the Magician.” Each one of us is The Magician because we hold within ourselves the power to create the life of our dreams.

But how did this cover happen? There is a lovely story behind it. While researching the many tarot decks online, I saw this card on the Attic Shoppe website and I knew at once that this was my “Sasha.”

Go back and have a look at the cover again. Doesn’t it just grip you too? Part practical, part whimsical, part traditional, part digital, this card, like the book, is a labour of love.

The designer, Bethalynne Bajema, created this card for her Black Ibis Tarot card deck.  The love she put in is very evident in the vibe one gets from it. Every time I see it, I am inspired to bring a touch of magic to the everyday routines of mundane life.

Carrying on the serendipity, Bethalynne immediately and graciously agreed to my request to make this card my book cover. Such generosity is hard to come by and I believe it is the Universe’s way of saying “you’re right on track.”
