Excerpt
“Max… what are you doing here?”
His grin widened as he strolled into my office looking mighty tasty in blue jeans, a St. Louis Rams jersey, and powder-blue Timberlands.
“Since you’ve been avoiding my calls I thought I’d drop by and see if I could pull you away for lunch.” As usual his stance was cocky and confident. The two things I loved in a man. And when it came to Max, it put him in a class of his own.
“I don’t have time to go to lunch,” I snarled. “I’ve got a million things to.”
“I figured you would say that, which is why I decided to bring lunch to you.”
It was then I noticed the backpack he slipped off his back. “What’s that?”
He gave me this look that instantly made my nipples pucker. “A picnic.”
I hated when he was so nice to me because it made it almost impossible to stay mad. How was it my mind refused to cooperate?
“A picnic?” I started laughing. Max and picnic were two things I would never had thought about putting together in the same sentence. “You’re kidding?” I watched as he reached inside the bag and removed a blue blanket and spread it out onto my office floor.
“I got everything you like…, roast beef sandwiches, Cole slaw, chips, diet soda, and even homemade lemon pound cake from Mama Dee’s Cafe.”
My eyes widened as I rose from my chair and came around my desk to look inside the pack. “How in the world did you know that was my favorite?”
He gave that smile of his that melted my heart. “I got friends in all places.”
“I just bet you do.” I rolled my eyes and tried to behave as if I wasn’t impressed. “Well, I hate that you went to all that trouble, but you’re wasting your time.”
I guess since I had allowed my guard down for even for a second, Max took that as an opportunity to surge pass my defenses.
“C’mere.” Max took hold of my arm, dragging me into the wall of his chest. I probably should have pushed him away, but that was hard to do with his juicy lips closing in on mine. And once again I was falling for his charm and BS. Dammit. Max was so sexy and enticing that rejecting him wasn’t quite that easy even if I wanted to. And to be honest, I didn’t. I would beat myself up over it later, but for now I wanted to savor the moment for all that it was worth.
I parted my lips and his tongue slipped into my mouth. Goodness, he was such an amazing kisser that desire shot through me so fast it made my knees buckle. I moaned and lifted my chin, seeking each stroke of his tongue. My arms came around to hold him while his hands moved to cup my ass. I was moaning and he was lifting me to my toes and crushing me against him.
I felt so comfortable in his arms I wanted to cry. Why was it this man had a way of making me feel good in ways that others could not? All I could think about was the pleasure blossoming in all of the right places. When he grazed his teeth over my bottom lip, I released a cry of distress.
“Enough!” I jerked away from his embrace, then waved my hand letting him know I wasn’t trying to hear anything he had to say. “Keep your lips to yourself!” I snapped then walked over and closed my office door and couldn’t even look at him because I was afraid he would see what I was hiding.
Max chuckled. “Your mouth says one thing, but a few seconds ago your lips were moaning a different tune.”
Oh no he didn’t. “Where’s Parker?” I folded my arms beneath my breasts and gave him a hard look. “I’m sure she’s looking for you.”
“I’m not worried about Parker. This is about you and me.”
