Saved In Sri Lanka

Saved In Sri Lanka is a story about a girl who finds love when it is almost impossible for her to cherish it. An unlikely bond forms between Sepalika and Daniel, who is visiting the Island of Srilanka. As they tour the country, this history buff is charmed by Sepalika’s knowledge, charm and quite demeanor. That she is a looker makes it all the more difficult for Daniel to resist, not that he wants to. He keeps finding questions and thoughts about Sri Lanka to ensure she is by his side most of the time. I found it so endearing and cute.
The love unfolds very subtly almost as if it will happen for sure, you are just waiting for them to just come out and say it. The story has all the elements of how difficult is the path of love is. Sepalika yearns to break free and return to the freedom she had earlier yet she is bound by her love. How can one sacrifice one love for another? Truly she has a tough time, trying to keep her distance yet feeling so conflicted about it.
Saved in Sri Lanka is also a book that shares so much about the country that it can also be a really good travelogue about the country, maybe from Daniel’s point of view. I found the descriptions of all the beautiful places they visited a bit much at times, maybe because I like to read about how and what the characters are feeling more than just what they are seeing. Overall the beauty of the place left me with an urge to see Sri Lanka with my own eyes, full marks to Devika for showcasing the splendor of the place. But at times the novel read more like a travelogue rather than the romance it was.
I felt due to all the sightseeing they did, the love story was slow to progress but that is my opinion as the travel was an integral part of the story and yes, you cannot rush love! Finally when things come to a head, the climax makes for a page turner. The lovers will unite or not? Sepalika faces troubles from all sides and her fiancée is no help – yes she has one, he is just another obstacle in the path of love.
The detailed descriptions, the sweet conversations and two beautiful people in a wonderful, picturesque place make for a lyrical read. Devika dabbles in many genres and tends to do full justice to each book. Having read most of them 😀 I have come to expect so much from her books and she does full justice each time.
Do pick Saved In Sri Lanka for a picturesque, adoring, cute love story.

Almost as soon as Devika Fernando could write, she imagined stories and poems. After finishing her education in Germany and returning to her roots in Sri Lanka, she got a chance to turn her passion into her profession. Having lived in Germany and in Sri Lanka with her husband has made her experience the best (and the worst) of two totally different worlds – something that influences her writing. Her trademark are sweet, yet deeply emotional romance stories where the characters actually fall in love instead of merely falling in lust. She draws inspiration from everyone and everything in life. Besides being a romance novel author, she works as a self-employed German web content writer, as a translator, and as a faithful servant to all the cats, dogs, fish and birds in her home. What she loves most about being an author is the chance to create new worlds and send her protagonists on a journey full of ups and downs that will leave them changed. When she’s not writing, she’s reading or thinking about writing.
