Catalina and the King’s Wall by Patty Costello #Kidlit #PictureBook #BookReview

Catalina and the King’s Wall is a rather sweet book. Catalina is a baker and a really good one at that. The King loves to eat and keeps Catalina busy with baking goodies for him. She misses her family who is planning to visit her but the King plans to build a wall around his kingdom.

The book, Catalina and the King’s Wall is a satire to the current issues plaguing the world, and a world that needs to be more open and big-hearted. The lovely, pretty, full-page images add to the reading experience. The small sentences are easy to read.

This storybook illustrated with vibrant colours and the paintings with the delightful baked goodies look yummy enough to eat. We had a distinct craving for some cake and cookies. Sweet, rhyming and wise words make it a delightful and fun read. I read it to my son who enjoyed it. Catalina and the King’s Wall is a good bedtime read.

Catalina and the King's Wall

Catalina and the King’s Wall is a lesson on being kind, generous, and supportive of all. Greedy and gluttonous, the king wants to keep everything for himself but then how would people and families from other kingdoms meet?

The smart girl Catalina brings syrupy, sweet and gooey ideas for building the wall and finally her sweet, crumbly wall teaches the King a lesson. The wall is a thing of a past and she is united with her family.
