Hell to Pay (What Doesn’t Kill You, #7): An Emily Romantic Mystery @PamelotH

When you pick a book to read, which is the seventh book in a series you expect some trouble connecting the dots but not in this one. Hell To Pay works wonderfully and is so full of action, awkward situations, tantrums, suspense that we forget it is a book in a series.

Hell to Pay (What Doesn't Kill You, #7): An Emily Romantic Mystery Kindle Edition by Pamela Fagan Hutchins

Hell to pay is a standalone book in a series that kept me turning pages’ wondering when is Emily getting busted and on what issues. This book is a rollercoaster of reading as Jack becomes cryptic by the page and Emily goes ballistic. That she carries a gun and knows how to drape a wild rattlesnake around her makes her chances of survival pretty good. But even in my wildest ideas I could not have imagined the climax!!

Hell to Pay (What Doesn't Kill You, #7): An Emily Romantic Mystery Kindle Edition by Pamela Fagan Hutchins

Emily is impetuous, loving, sentimental, and courageous and “leaps before she looks” but all this adds to her charm making it mighty difficult not to like her. With references to her past and the reasons for her actions amply justified it is easy to see why she wants to get to the root of Mighty is His Word Church. That she gets a lot more than she prayed for makes this book a page-turner.

Jack with his good looks, tempting dimple and suave manner is such a dude, a kind-hearted boss and a loving guy even though he keeps it all quiet but so do most of the ‘good guys’. His simple gestures and smart actions make him the perfect foil for Emily. And he is a flyer! 😉

The mix of friends and family who are around, add to the drama and tension in the book, sometimes helping, sometimes embarrassing. The book flows along as the story progresses moving on many different levels. At times, it did feel that Emily was trying to do too much on her own and sometimes I felt that her friends were being added to the story just to add more characters to the mix.

The author has managed to strike a balance but I would have liked a little less of the side stories, describing the situations down to the letter (box), sharing how soon and how much the dog snores, the sheets, blankets and their colors and patterns and people pointing out the braces every single time! Even Tom Cruise had got adult braces though his were transparent but I really was surprised how people mentioned the braces first and everything else later!

Pamela writes with care, detail and finesse. I must say the book was not boring even on a single page and the story moved fast. She wrote the story with a good flow as the incidents happened and as Emily pushed herself nonstop. Good humor, witty writing and excellent story line made it possible for me to finish this book in two days. I have picked up another one by the author, “Heaven To Betsy”. I have plans to read all books in the What Doesn’t Kill You series.

A thriller with a hint of romance and spunky characters, a peek into the small town culture and lifestyle is Hell To Pay. That the book talks about the topic of religious terrorism and foster kids and how nothing is really inconceivable!! Parents ignoring/ abusing their kids and the system trying their best, devious people are taking advantage and money being more than life – all this manifests in every corner of the globe.

Pamela ensures that the book keeps the reader engrossed and that the criminals get what they deserve – Hell To Pay. Root for Emily and Besty and John – they never gave up. Read and find out how!

I downloaded a free Kindle version of this book via Book Funnel from the link sent by the author via The Book Club in return for my honest review.

A standalone book in a series? That’s surprising. This one sounds like a good read though. Will check it out sometime.
