Depressed, are you serious? I am fine, I feel great! You did see me last night when I sang my heart out at the party? I have friends, I go out, and I enjoy myself, why would you say that? You are my husband, you know me!!
Rita, I love you! I know you are not like this!! This sudden change, impulse buys and these nonstop parties? It is as if you do not want to hear yourself, your thoughts. Where is the girl who loved to talk away the evening with me, you are just so quite now, why?
Through the month of April I am writing along with over 1900 participants for the A to Z Challenge. My theme for the Alphabet Challenge is FEELINGS and FICTION. The happy, sad, funny, silly, envious, over the top and totally low down account of feelings in 100 words of fiction.

Observant hubby! Do they really notice such mood changes? I mean the husbands?

A little story that says so much of it! 🙂

Wow! Reading you after a long time. how well you have narrated the defense mechanism of a depressed person…
Sounds like she’s in denial and over-compensating. Her husband is obviously very attentive. Good for him!
An attentive and sensitive husband who aired priceless views for her to be back to the original self. I am surprised when we fail to notice our closed ones going through hell.
I’m so glad that the husband noticed the change in her! Beautifully penned as always.
I guess,it happens mostly in the case of women only 😉
Be aware and alert for the signs early on is the only sure way to save suffering caused by Depression.
Loved the way you’ve subtly hinted that depression can strike anytime, anyone and often the depressed person is in denial of it.

Never really thought that extra gregariousness would mask depression
This goes to show that one can put on a happy face and still be depressed.

It’s so good that he recognized the symptoms early on! Other wise, mental illnesses go undetected and unrecognized for ages!
what’s important is that he noticed that something’s amiss…how many men would do that.

So much said in such few words.
I’m so glad that she has her husband by her side. There are millions of people who are oblivious to the issue, let alone their near and dear ones have any idea about it.
Well portrayed 🙂

Thank god the husband is noticing. Lucky girl.. if only she sees it.
Atleast she has someone who cares and understand. Many families still fail to recognize depression as a serious issue.

If two people care for each other and one supports the other, so many tragedies can be prevented. Loved your story, hope she is okay.
That’s just how it happens. The sufferer is perhaps the last one to realise it. Good choice for D.
The silent and deadly thing that creeps up on tiptoe and takes over a person. Indy well written…
The symptoms are there, good at least someone has noticed….all will be well! Good take on the word Indy 🙂
love the two perspectives you used in this one. This story of yours remind me of a recent read, The Girl on the Train. 🙂
Great job, Indy!
