You’ve Got the Wrong Girl by Sreemoyee Piu Kundu.

Like the colors on the book cover and a glass of good wine, this book has a lot of color and flavor. I read it as I sipped my favorite wine and egged Dushyant to get his act together! You’ve Got The Wrong Girl is a book that grows on you. As I started reading the book, I was not too impressed with Dushyant as I wondered how he could be crazy enough to let go of a girl who meant so much to him. Then I read on and I could feel his insecurities, his failing and frailties.  A regular guy who is trying to find the love of his life and not just the next best seller.

The book starts with a bang, with fireworks, the Taj Mahal and a big fat Indian wedding in the land of Love. This book is not just a love story; it is an insight into the mind of a guy. A pretty average, regular everyday guy we never give a second look. The author has written the book from a guy’s point of view.

I loved the cover of the book, even before the story the cover attracted me. It describes the book, its story so well. The vibrant colors and images are a perfect reflection of the roller coaster ride I had as I read the love story of Dushyant and his mystery girl. Yes, I am calling her mystery girl so as to not spoil the surprise for you when you find her in the book. And, yes she was worth the chase and the read.

The reference to the best seller book, mega movie and the superstar Kamya Kapoor, was a bit reminiscent of the movie, Three Idiots and Kareena Kapoor. Also, I enjoyed reading the various references to the big stars in real life into the story as it progressed. Dushyant and his search for his elusive ‘one night stand’.

The conversational style and simple language make this book an easy, swift read. No jargon or difficult to wrap your head around double meaning words or complicated language in this book. I enjoyed reading the book, I follow Sreemoynee posts online and the book too has her passion and fire as she talks about the obstacles a guy faces as he tries to find the love of his life.

In the words of the author as she says “Everybody deserves a love story,” is the essence of the book. As Dushyant tries to find the girl from Agra and tries to settle down with what is expected from him or when he is trying to find himself, he is fighting for his love. Yes, I agree with the author’s sentiment when she says no matter who, each one of us deserves a love story.

The story of Anjali and Vikram, their old ties with Dushyant , the big sister, the love story about his parents as well as his man Friday – Bhaskar make this book much more than just one man’s quest for a needle in a haystack! These people add depth to the story and bring to fore the fact that no human is alone, our actions have repercussions on people much more than we realize.

The play upon the classic Shakuntala was a reference point and referred to a few times in the book as the author drew parallels from the classic. It was a bit much at times but the author’s point was valid so I go with her judgment. It was her way of trying to tell us that no love story is perfect or without obstacles and if we don’t stand up and fight for our love it will slip away from our hands.

The way Bhaskar stands by Dushyant, helping him find himself and his love was so endearing, I think Bhaskar is one of those characters that grow up and ask for their own stories to be told. A guy who is always the last one to be looked up and stays behind the scenes but the story would not be complete without him. I think he is the best penned secondary character in the book, read the book and tell me if you too want to know more about Bhaskar and his Silky! 😉

The mercurial and mystically enchanting love, the love that makes the world go round, the love that cares and survives on a single kind world. This love is the essence of You’ve Got The Wrong Girl as Dushyant and his fight to reclaim that perfect love, one starry night three years ago.

I have a brother and have had many a discussion on love, life and how the two come together with him so I agree with Sreemoyee words and enjoyed the book as she revealed the frailties of men as much as women. An insightful love story as we find that men are as confused, conflicted and emotional as women. An endearing, sweet book as we raced across the country to catch up with love.

About the book

On a sultry night, on a deserted lawn overlooking a moonlit Taj Mahal, two strangers make passionate love and promise never to meet again… But promises are meant to be broken, right?

This is the story of Dushyant Singh Rathore – the 30-something bestselling author of Kinda Cliched, a blockbuster romance novel based on his one night of bliss with a girl whose name he does not know. Under pressure to produce a money-spinning sequel – from his obsessive fans, his hit-seeking publisher and a sceptical journalist ready to expose the true-story angle as a marketing gimmick – he sets off, three years on, to find the elusive girl whom he had promised never to seek out.

When his quest, many twists and turns later, leads him to the unlikeliest of places, Dushyant discovers there’s a little more to this love story than he had anticipated. Will Dushyant get a second chance at love? What if the wrong girl was really always the right one for him?

Delightful, unconventional, heart-warming, You’ve Got the Wrong Girl! is a roller-coaster ride through love, lust and everything in between.

You’ve Got the Wrong Girl is inspired by Kalidasa’s Abhigyana Shakuntalam. Full of hilarious twists and turns and unlikely situations in which our hero keeps landing in, You’ve Got the Wrong Girl is a delightfully written take on all that is clichéd and stereotypical with romantic fiction.
