Butterfly Season by Natasha Ahmed

I had wanted to read this book for a while now and it just kept getting put off. But not anymore and am I glad I read it. It was all that the blurb talks about and more.  Rumi and Ahad are a delight to know and the book is just so well written. The story is simple enough but it moves us across borders. The issued Natasha has raised are faced by women across borders; women who want to explore life, enjoy freedom and take their own decisions.
This book is a fast paced read; one that kept me engrossed with the delicate, stylized and very apt exploration of a new relationship; new decisions and feelings. The author has done justice to the theme and I loved the way she merged butterflies and freedom, exploration and independence; Subtle yet smart. I kicked myself a few times for not having read this book sooner! God!! How many hours I wasted on my newsfeed!!
Ahad is handsome, smart and self assured. He is not really looking for a relationship but Rumi intrigues him, and why not? Rumi is beautiful, confident and so out of his league but then they find so much common ground. Aren’t they the best love stories where the lovers unite and find their love across differences?
Butterfly season too is a story woven across similar thoughts. The topic of physical intimacy is handled with élan bringing the justifiable closure to the oft debated topic. It is a personal issue and no one has reason to pass judgment on it. I was reminded of my college days when the concept of ‘living –in’ and being open about it was gaining acceptance in Delhi University. Whenever, wherever we find out liberation, it should be cherished and celebrated. This book is the perfect tribute to finding one’s wings and celebrating independence and freedom.
What I liked the best was the effortless love story Natasha has woven with the demands of the society and family. Rumi finds herself and Ahad discovers himself. Butterly Season is like perfect love that makes two beautiful people more complete, more wonderful when they find their love.
The language, conversations and the feelings are all expressed so eloquently, I read the book almost nonstop enjoying each page. I hope she writes more soon as I look forward to reading more of her works.
(I won a copy of the book in the #TornadoGiveaway This is my honest review.)

On her first holiday in six years, Rumi is expecting to relax and unwind. But when she is set up by her long-time friend, she doesn’t shy away from the possibilities. Ahad, a charming, independent, self-made man, captures her imagination, drawing her away from her disapproving sister, Juveria.

Faced with sizzling chemistry and a meeting of the minds, Ahad and Rumi find themselves deep in a relationship that moves forward with growing intensity. But as her desire for the self-assured Ahad grows, Rumi struggles with a decision that will impact the rest of her life.

Confronted by her scandalized sister, a forbidding uncle and a society that frowns on pre-marital intimacy, Rumi has to decide whether to shed her middle-class sensibilities, turning her back on her family, or return to her secluded existence as an unmarried woman in Pakistan.

We follow Rumi from rainy London to a sweltering Karachi, as she tries to take control of her own destiny.
