In the past few years that I have started reviewing books online, I have had the opportunity to interact with many authors and the one thing many of them mention is the uncertainity about publishing their book.
Many have mentioned their ugly and hurtful experiences many have had with publishers and editors! This from people who are established good writers, been writing and getting applauded for their efforts too.
The author is responsible for and in control of the entire process, including, in the case of a book, the design of the cover and interior, formats, price, distribution, marketing and public relations.
The authors can do it all themselves or outsource all or part of the process to companies that offer these services.
Self-publishing is not limited to physical books. E-books, pamphlets, sales brochures, websites, and other materials are commonly self-published. “
Though I feel this definition gives a lot of freedom and control it did also make me realize that Self-pub is not easy. The pressure and need to get it right the first time is quite intense! So a good support and freedom to decide is what an author needs.
