Is He Even Worth It? Book Review

Book Review
Is He Even Worth? is a story about second chances and love. How often we find ourselves judging people and letting their past actions affect our judgments. This is a story about Teresa and Terrin and how they are trying to be there for each other.  Terrin has a past and an ex-girlfriend who does not understand she is ex. Along with her interest for Terrin, she is spiteful and selfish. Though her relationship is a casual one she wants more.

As Teresa and Terrin find love and comfort with each other, they also face many problems. The path of love is never easy and this novella shares the impact past actions can have on present happiness.

I found the language straight forward taking the story ahead through the thoughts and discussions of both the central characters. I did find reading too many thoughts a bit odd at times since both the characters thought quite a bit!

Overall, a light and fast read. Since it is a novella, I finished it in one sitting. It is a reflection of our love and relationships today. A good read for our youth exploring new relationships and the changing dynamics of love in today.

Book Excerpt One

Chapter 1: Teresa
“Hey Baby,” a voice called from behind me. “Wait up,” I continued to walk a little faster I didn’t want to hear what he had to say. I just had to go and get my mind off of what I had just seen. I tried to walk faster into my apartment where we live around the block from each other, but he had caught up to me. “Wait, we need to talk. He ran, stopping in front of me with sad eyes.
Boy, please! I thought.” “Talk,” I said, “about how for the past three years that we’ve been together, you decided to be with someone else. Is that what you want to talk about? You know what, we talked and good luck with her. I hope she’s the one you want. My three years plus her one week, or day or whatever, she’s got a lot of catching up to do, so goodbye.”
“Teresa, I’m sorry for what I did, I never wanted it to happen this way. You know I love you.”
“You have a funny way of showing it, that’s not love, that’s heartache and you wasted my time loving you, all I ever wanted from you was to be honest like I was to you, but you showed me otherwise. I loved you, cared for you, defended our relationship to people who said we wouldn’t make it, or last less than six months. But yet, here I am looking at you together with another woman, who isn’t me. I’m the fool, I’m the one who was blind, while everybody else could see the real you. So you know what? I’m happy for you and her because now you can see what you had missed out on; a good woman and the only one that can love you the way that I can.”
I went up to my apartment and left him there like he’s dumbfounded and lost. I went into my room, took a shower and listened to Monica’s Until It’s Gone. It’s true when people say that you never know what you have until it’s gone.
Book Excerpt Two

Chapter 3: Teresa
The weekend couldn’t get here fast enough. I’ve been dreading for this weekend to come ever since I talked to Tiara and Taylor at work. So, I decided to do some studying for a little while before it was time to get ready.
It was after 8, and I decided to get ready, wash and put my clothes on. You know it takes a while to look fabulous in any occasion. After about five shots of Yellow Tail Wine Moscato, I am ready to get my party on and do me tonight. Just have to wait on Taylor and Tiara. It was about 8:45pm and Tiara and Taylor was here. My girls looked fierce. Tiara has on a short, solid color pink lace panel strap dress with a Givenchy pink cut-out shoe boots, with her Gucci bag purse. Taylor has on a sold blue asymmetrical one shoulder that came above the knee with her blue stilettos with the zipper on the sides. We all have it going on tonight. Our outfits fit perfectly with our 5’7” frame. I’m planning on celebrating real well tonight. We all headed out and gotten in Taylor’s 2013 Silver Mercedes Benz, she turned on the radio and one of my many favorite songs came on; Ciara feat. Nicki Minaj I’m Out. They’re Taylor and Tiara’s favorite singer and rapper. I personally don’t have a favorite, but if I like the song, I like them. This song tonight is speaking to me right now.
“I just went through a break up (oh-yeah-yeah-yeah). But its okay, I got my cake up (oh-yeah-yeah-yeah) Do my hair, put on some make-up (oh-yeah-yeah-yeah) trying going to see what tonight’s going to take us (oh-yeah-yeah-yeah).”
We sang, and sang that song. Every word that I heard was speaking to me. I’m going to have a good time tonight…….. I’m Out!
