Narayan, Nagarkar & Nargarkar are all N #AtoZChallenge

The AtoZChallenge has been especially difficult for me this year, coupled with the move to another state has left my blogging in a sad state. Still I continue and N brings with it one of my very favorite author R K Narayan. Just his name evokes so many happy memories. Followed by Kiran Nagarkar and Sudeep Nargarkar and no, they are not related; o There is the difference of an R.

R. K. Narayan was an Indian writer, best known for his works set in the fictional South Indian town of Malgudi. He is one of three leading figures of early Indian literature in English (alongside Mulk Raj Anand and Raja Rao), and is credited with bringing the genre to the rest of the world. He is best known for his novels based in the fictitious town of Malgudi, R.K.Narayan is a prolific Indian author. He wrote with special grace, ingenuity and humor. He is honored with the Padma Bhushan for his contribution to literature.
Narayan broke through with the help of his mentor and friend, Graham Greene, who was instrumental in getting publishers for Narayan’s first four books, including the semi-autobiographical trilogy of Swami and Friends, The Bachelor of Arts and The English Teacher. Narayan’s works also include The Financial Expert, hailed as one of the most original works of 1951, and Sahitya Akademi Award winner The Guide, which was adapted for film and for Broadway.

Kiran Nagarkar (born 1942) is an Indian novelist, playwright, film and drama critic and screenwriter both in Marathi and English, and is one of the most significant writers of post colonial India.
Amongst his works are Saat Sakkam Trechalis (tr. Seven Sixes Are Forty Three) (1974),Ravan and Eddie (1994), and the epic novel, Cuckold (1997) for which he was awarded the 2001 Sahitya Akademi Award in English by the Sahitya Akademi, India’s National Academy of Letters
Nagarkar is notable among Indian writers for having written acclaimed novels in more than one language. His first novel, Saat Sakkam Trechalis (later published in English as Seven Sixes Are Forty Three) is considered one of the landmark works of Marathi literature.
Sudeep Nargakar’s books continue to top the bestseller charts across the country since their release and have sold in lakhs. His books are inspired from real life incidents and anyone can connect with them easily. They have been translated into regional languages too.

He is the recipient of the 2013 Youth Achievers’ Award for writing for being one of the highest selling romance writers in India. His book ‘It started with a friend request’ was most popular fiction book of 2013 according to biggest online portal Amazon.

Sudeep quit a management job in 2012 after his second book to devote his entire time for writing. He also writes for television and gives guest lectures in various institutes and organizations. He lives in Mumbai with his parents Jayant Nagarkar and Manju Nagarkar. You can write to him personally at [email protected]
