Book Review “WHIP EYE”

WhipEye by Geoffrey Saign

The name of the book is simple enough but it is the cover that draws the attention. It is a tale of fantasy, magic and the supernatural. All of this is set against the backdrop of Mother Nature. The underlying theme too is about caring and saving our planet.
Things are not as they seem and this book takes us on a roller coaster ride of adventure with a large mix of fantasy and magic. This is not a book for the faint hearted! Over a period of two days the children Sam and Jake enter into a mythical place, a forest like the Garden of Eden and are swept away into the challenges and a fight to survive and save the world and their friend Charlie – the parrot. Magnar is the evil enemy they must defeat but he does not think of them as children but as adversaries who need to be killed at all costs so he can win and rule the earth!!!
This book is racy and fast paced and keeps one guessing for more. I learnt so much about many animals and so would your child. It also teaches them about the concern for wildlife and animals. It is a good book to teach children about the importance and our role in taking care of what we have on this planet. All aspects of our existence on this planet must have effects and sooner our kids learn about it, better it is!
I liked the simple, easy language of the writer Geoffrey Saign & his in-depth knowledge about the animal kingdom all come together to create a wonderful book. My only problem was that sometimes the attacks on the children felt non-stop, it might be scary for some children. The various monsters made quite an impact as did the many majestic animals.
It is a book full of action and reminds us of the delicate balance of nature! I enjoyed reading this one and will be on the lookout for Whip Eye Chronicles Book 2 Gorgon!
