Laughter is the backbone of a healthy life and smile is a curve that sets everything straight are lines I really believe in. For me laughter is the magic pill that is the perfect solution for all my troubles and it is fun too.
I got the opportunity to review Digs, Dogs & Drama by Rachna Singh, from Write tribe and their book review program. I apologize for the delay in reviewing the book but life got in the way of my love for reading. I had never heard of the author but when I read about the book and the author I was very interested.
A woman writer with a talent for satire and humour; let’s read what she has to say. The book’s title was attractive and having to say something about dogs was a plus. I love dogs and since I cannot keep one right now so I look for scraps and titbits about dogs everywhere.
The book does not disappoint; if you are looking for a good laugh at your own expense, this is the book for you. Satire, subtle insults and in your face pointers; the book has it all.
It is a series of chapters on our daily life and on the author’s life. The many faults and mistakes she makes along the way to name, fame, shopping, work and holiday’s with her family are all engaging and fun to read.
Some of the chapter really gave me a good laugh while others made me go, yeah! Right!! So true, I agree.
All of us have faced the camera and gone all jittery even for a passport size photo so imagine what she undergoes for a ‘photo shoot’. Surviving A Photo Shoot details her trials and tribulations for getting the best possible angle on her.
Playing Tooth Fairy outlines the nightmare all parents will be facing as the kids lose their teeth and ask for the fairy to deliver coins, gifts and much more!
The Dogs (?) Must Be Crazy. Beautifully illustrates what living in high rise apartments and complexes has done to dogs and their social life. I could relate so easily with it because my mother’s high-rise too has banned dogs altogether due to the very reasons she discusses!
Conned By Emoticons is another jibe at technology invading our lives with the silly similes running amok all over.
The Cues You Should Not Miss regales you of tales of employees gone redundant but yet are themselves unaware!
The Case For Bollywood reminds me that the book could not have been complete if Bollywood would not have been discussed and it sure gets its due!
The one thing that did not work for me was the never ending number of chapters (40 or so in all) and they were not connected; it is one story after another but unlike a short story anthology it has no variety. Humour is the common theme and it got a bit monotonous after a while.
Hat’s off to Rachna for coming up with so many tales and compiling them to form a coherent line of thought. I enjoyed the jokes right till the end, some more than others. It reminded me of reading blog posts of a similar topic again and again without a change of angle.

The book is a laughter-riot and I appreciate it for being so candid and forthcoming with it shower of humour, equally for whatever she discusses in the book.
Keep it for reading to brighten up your day and to revel in your ‘Indianness”. I am Indian and proud of it, shouts the book Digs, Dogs and Drama and me too.
