Four Weddings and a Sixpence: An Anthology by Julia Quinn, Elizabeth Boyle, Laura Lee Guhrke, and Stefanie Sloane

This anthology is the story collection of four friends, young girls at the Madame Rochambeaux’s Gentle School for Girls who find an old sixpence and keep it for luck and pass it along to each other when they are of marrying age. All the novellas are connected since they are stories of the four friends but they can be read as standalone novellas. They are fast, sweet and good stories of love and its magical, mysterious ways.

It follows the old rhyme and makes a delightful story collection from the four authors and I am a fan of Julia Quinn so I was eager to read this book. Each of the stories has a little something special to share and make us love this book. I read this book nonstop, putting aside the others I was reading since this was so absorbing. #Bookreview

I was pulled into the stories of these four friends and how they handle love. Either the girls are looking for love, avoiding it, or being blissfully unaware that love is right by their side. The twist in the stories and that they are short reads made them perfect tales for when we are short on time but wish to read a splendid book.

Anne is looking for a husband in “Something New” and finds him just in time and with so many twists and many boorish guys later. Thankfully, she has a guardian who helps her avoid them and how!

Cordelia in “Something Borrowed” is the lady with the most fun story, she has an imaginary fiancé and needs a guy to fill his shoes. Kipp, her childhood friend obliges and leads to so many ‘situations’ but love guides their path as the members of RSE follow all the rules 😉

The thief is someone known to Elinor in “Something Blue” and she tries her best to get the penny back from him even as the penny does its magic. Lawrence and Elinor are stuck in a feud as both of them try to prove the truth. It does eventually come out and brings the lovers together and the six-pence sure had a lot to do.

I enjoyed the last story of Beatrice and Frederick in “… and a Sixpence in Her Shoe” the most, it was a delightfully fast love story of two people who are so similar yet are trailblazers in those old times. The handsome, kind, considerate guy with the practical, pretty lady make for a love that could have their own full-length story.

The stories have enough romance, suspense, love and a bit hot under the pages to keep readers hooked. I recommend this book to all lovers of historical fictional romance – you will not be disappointed.
